Malaysia releases orders on stamp duty, 06 January 2017

Stamp Duty (Remission) Order 2016

The abovementioned Order provides remission from stamp duty chargeable in respect of purchase of one unit of residential property that is not more than RM500,000, subject to certain conditions. The amount remitted depends on the value of the residential property.

The Order came into operation on 1 January 2017.

Stamp Duty (Remission) (No 2) Order 2016

The abovementioned Order provides remission from stamp duty chargeable on any loan agreement to finance the purchase of one unit of residential property that is not more than RM500,000, subject to certain conditions. The amount remitted depends on the value of the residential property.

The Order came into operation on 1 January 2017.

Stamp Duty (Exemption) (No 3) Order 2016

The abovementioned Order provides that certain instruments relating to Islamic banking, takaful activities and Islamic capital market under a scheme to promote Malaysia International Islamic Financial Centre are exempted from stamp duty, subject to certain conditions.

The Order came into operation on 1 January 2017.
