MOF grants special automatic approval for first time renewal of GST tax agent license, 05 October 2016

The Ministry of Finance (MOF) has agreed to grant automatic approval for all applications for first time GST tax agent licence renewal in the transition period up to 31 March 2020, vide their letter dated 29 September 2016.

Tax agents are unable to meet the requirements for Continuing Professional Development and the number of clients for the renewal of the GST tax agent licence, as provided in the MOF guidelines, which has led to rejections of renewal applications.

Therefore, the automatic approval has been granted to enable the MOF to discuss proposals regarding the requirements brought up by Chartered Tax Institute of Malaysia (CTIM) Public Practice Committee and other professional bodies.

However, applicants must still submit a completed application for renewal online.

For applications which were rejected or not considered prior to this, applicants can submit an appeal to MOF as soon as possible. Criteria for subsequent licence renewals will be discussed in more detail with industry players and Royal Malaysian Customs Department.
