Beauty entrepreneur Datuk Seri Hasmiza Othman was charged at the Sessions Court for failing to pay the GST totaling more than RM4m. She was charged with 32 counts and pleaded not guilty for failure to make payments and producing statements for the taxable period between 1 April 2015 and 31 July 2016.

She was charged under s 41(7) and 41(6) of the GST Act 2014 which provide a maximum fine of RM50,000 or three years imprisonment, or both, upon conviction for each charge. Judge set bail at RM60,000 for each charge for failing to make the GST payments, while for failing to submit the statements, bail was set at RM50,000 for each charge. In total, Hasmiza was required to pay a total bail of RM1.76m and has to surrender her passport to the Court.
