MACC and IRB to collaborate to fight corruption, 04 January 2017

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the Inland Revenue Board (IRB) will collaborate to curb corruption, abuse of power and tax evasion by seeking out those involved in corruption, failed to declare their income or tried to avoid paying income tax.

MACC said that cases being investigated by them will be referred to the IRB. This also means that those involved in corruption and abuse of power could be penalised under the MACC Act 2009 as well as the Income Tax Act 1967. It is hoped that the initiative would send a clear message that the two agencies are transparent in fighting corruption and abuse of power, as well as ensuring the country’s taxation system is continuously reinforced.
